  • The Sela Pass (more appropriately called Se La, as La means Pass) is the high-altitude mountain pass located in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh state of India. It enjoys the majestic elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) that connects the Buddhist city of Tawang Town to Tezpur and Guwahati. It’s the main road that connects Tawang with the rest of India.
  • Tawang is the largest Buddhist Monastery in India and the second largest in the world making it the most important site of pilgrimage for the Buddhists. This beautiful majestic Monastery truly lives up to its name and is also called the Galden Namgey Lhatse which literally means ‘celestial paradise in a clear sky’.
  • The Orchid Research and Development Center at Tippijust 5 km ahead of Bhalukpong, an entry point for Arunachal Pradesh. It is part of the Sessa Wildlife Sanctuary situated 20km ahead on the Bomdila road. Explore the beauty of nature at the Orchid Research And Development Center which preserves several species of orchids in a scientific way.

  • To go to ARUNACHAL PRADESH, Inner Line Permits are needed for both Indian and foreign nationals.
  • To visit BUM-LA(the Indo-China border above 16,500 ft above sea level) and SANGET-SAR LAKE (popularly known as Madhuri Lake ), a 3 nights stay at Tawang is required as permits to visit both are required.
  • Carry adequate cash in Indian currency as ATMs might not be available in remote areas
  • Carry at least one of your identity proofs

Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati and Transfer to Bhalukpong

Upon your arrival in Guwahati, you’ll be transferred to Bhalukpong. Known for its serene environment, Bhalukpong is located along the Kameng River and is the entry point to Arunachal Pradesh. In the evening, enjoy the natural surroundings or visit the Tipi Orchidarium, which houses exotic varieties of orchids.

Day 2: Bhalukpong to Dirang

After breakfast, head towards Dirang, a scenic hill station with mesmerizing views. En route, visit the Bomdila Monastery, a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Later, explore Dirang Dzong and Apple Orchards, which are popular among tourists.

Day 3: Dirang to Tawang

Today, travel from Dirang to Tawang, a beautiful town known for its Buddhist heritage and stunning landscapes. En route, stop at the famous Sela Pass (13,700 feet above sea level), one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Also, visit the Jaswant Garh War Memorial in honor of a brave Indian soldier from the 1962 Indo-China war.

Day 4: Tawang Local Sightseeing

Explore the Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second largest in Asia. The monastery is an important center for Buddhist learning. Also, visit Urgyelling Monastery, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, and the Tawang War Memorial, dedicated to soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1962 war.

Day 5: Excursion to Madhuri Lake and Bum La Pass

Take a full-day excursion to Madhuri Lake (Sangestar Tso), a breathtaking high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-clad mountains. Then, proceed to Bum La Pass on the Indo-China border (subject to permit availability). This excursion is perfect for adventure seekers and those interested in exploring remote, picturesque landscapes.

Day 6: Tawang to Bomdila
