  • Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya derived from the name, Lei Shillong, an idol worshipped at the Shillong Peak is the home to numerous waterfalls.
  • The breathtaking waterfalls being the tallest ones to ever witness is one of the key reasons why people visit Shillong.
  • Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, also known as Sohra which was pronounced “Churra” by the British and it eventually evolved into the current name, Cherrapunji.The name “Cherrapunji” which means ‘land of oranges’ was first used by tourists from other parts of India.
  • Located around 50 km from Shillong, Meghalaya’s double-decker and single-decker root bridges are said to be unique in the world and are a sight to behold and are famous for its rich flora and natural attractions. The double-decker and single-decker root bridges are tangles of massive thick roots that can hold several people at a time.
  • Mawlynnong/Mawlynnong Village is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya and is also referred to as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia. It is also called a magical paradise because of the pleasant weather, surroundings, etc.
  • THE UMNGOT RIVER at DAWKI  over which is a single-span suspension bridge was constructed is the natural boundary between India and Bangladesh
  • ARCHERY SHOW AT SHILLONG – The archery gambling is a kind of lottery, with the local archers shooting at a target. People all over Meghalaya place a bet on the last 2 digits of the number of arrows sticking to the target. It is an extremely fascinating mixture of sport, culture & gambling.   • MAWSMAI CAVES, the most popular caves in Meghalaya is said to be home to some amazing and mysterious caves. It is situated a few km from Cherrapunjee and is referred to as one of the most popular and notable landmarks which are flocked by visitors in great numbers.

Interesting!!! – It takes around 15 years for a new root bridge to become strong enough to bear the weight of people crossing it !! DAWKI is the only place where there is a road route connecting to Bangladesh !! A small market area in Dawki has been set up which allows people at both borders to share business connections.
