  • Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya derived from the name, Lei Shillong, an idol worshipped at the Shillong Peak is the home to numerous waterfalls.
  • Cherrapunjee situated in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya is also known as Sohra, is a high-altitude town. It’s known for its living root bridges, made from rubber trees. 
  • DOUBLE DECKER LIVING ROOT BRIDGE AT NONGRIAT – a trek which is about 6 to 7 hours to and from the jungle, where betel-nut and bay-leaves are grown by local people who make this trek every day to get to the road.
  • THE UMNGOT RIVER at DAWKI  over which is a single-span suspension bridge was constructed is the natural boundary between India and Bangladesh
  • Mawlynnong/Mawlynnong Village is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya and is also referred to as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia. It is also called a magical paradise because of the pleasant weather, surroundings, etc.
  • Located around 50 km from Shillong is known for its double-decker living root bridge and is famous for its rich flora and natural attractions.
  • Jowai, the exquisitely beautiful destination renowned for its scenic vistas is located in the Jaintia Hills, the heart of Meghalaya.

Interesting!!! – It takes around 15 years for a new root bridge to become strong enough to bear the weight of people crossing it !! DAWKI is the only place where there is a road route connecting to Bangladesh !! A small market area in Dawki has been set up which allows people at both borders to share business connections. After descending some 2000+ steps for the Double Decker Root Bridge, If you’re not too exhausted and have the time, continue to walk around 20-30 minutes past the Double Decker root bridge. The natural swimming pools near this root bridge are a highlight.

Meghalaya’s double-decker and single-decker root bridges are unique in the world and are a sight to behold. The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which have been intermingled to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time.

Dawki

Dawki is the only place where there is a road route connecting to Bangladesh !! A small market area in Dawki has been set up which allows people at both borders to share business connections.

  • Arrival /Departure MAY be amended to Guwahati depending on flight connectivity with major cities across India.
  • One night’s stay at Guwahati may be required depending on your arrival/departure timings.
  • The treks to the root bridges vary in duration and level of difficulty.
  • To visit MEGHALAYA no entry permits are required for Indians or foreigners.
  • You can explore the markets for goodies that are locally produced like handicrafts, wooden items, bamboo artifacts, and a very popular forest-made honey
  • Carry adequate cash in Indian currency as ATMs might not be available in remote areas
