  • SIJU CAVES, in the Garo Hills, is a beautiful view from Tura and is one of the longest caves in India and might be the longest in Asia as well because to date nobody has ever reached the end of this cave. It is said that it should not be accessed without LOCAL help as the place is a remote area with almost no network and houses hundreds of bats!!  Hence known as “dabokhol” (it means bat cave in local language)

  • Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, also known as Sohra which was pronounced “Churra” by the British and it eventually evolved into the current name, Cherrapunji.The name “Cherrapunji” which means ‘land of oranges’ was first used by tourists from other parts of India.
  • THE UMNGOT RIVER at DAWKI  over which is a single-span suspension bridge was constructed is the natural boundary between India and Bangladesh
  • Mawlynnong/Mawlynnong Village is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya and is also referred to as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia. It is also called a magical paradise because of the pleasant weather, surroundings, etc.
  • Located around 50 km from Shillong is known for its double-decker living root bridge and is famous for its rich flora and natural attractions.
  • Manas National Park in Assam is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, a tiger and It is said to be deemed as a safe shelter for several rare and endangered species
  • An ideal destination to visit for its Tiger Reserve, Elephant Reserve, Biosphere Reserve, National Park, and also a Wildlife Sanctuary. Manas National Park is open all year round and the best time to visit the park is between the months of November to April.

Interesting!!! – Water of the Umngot River is very clean and become Crystal clear in winters.It is also known as the Transparent lake DAWKI is the only place where there is a road route connecting to Bangladesh !! A small market area in Dawki has been set up which allows people at both borders to share business connections.. MANAS N P is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tiger Reserve, Elephant Reserve, Biosphere Reserve, National Park and also a Wildlife Sanctuary. Meghalaya’s double-decker and single-decker root bridges are unique in the world and are a sight to behold. The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which have been intermingled to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time.

Manas , Manas NP , declared as a National Park in 1990, is famous for its population of the Wild water buffalo, rare golden langur and the red panda and Guwahati , the largest city of north-east India, also known for kamakhya temple (one of the shaktipeeth temples) and the mighty Brahmaputra river.
Guwahati is home to largest tea auction market in India. On outskirts of Guwahati, there are colonies of Greater Adjutant Stork which are considered one of the biggest in the world.

Before You Go

  • To visit MEGHALAYA no entry permits are required for Indians or foreigners.
  • Permits for safari: The park safaris should be booked in advance and photo ID proof {passport copy (overseas and Indian Nationals), voters ID, Pan Card, driving license} is required to book the safaris. Different charges apply for Indian national and Foreign nationals.
  • Do carry comfortable footwear and clothing which will blend with nature. Traveling with toddlers and infants is not recommended as safari should be the least noisy activity for the best experience!
  • You can explore the markets for goodies that are locally produced like handicrafts, wooden items, bamboo artifacts, and a very popular forest-made honey
  • One night’s stay at Guwahati may be required depending on your arrival/departure timings.
  • Carry adequate cash in Indian currency as ATMs might not be available in remote areas
  • Carry at least one of your identity proofs
