Tour Brief & Highlights

Here is an itinerary which will walk you through the  wildlife at Kaziranga, along with the much-visited destinations of Meghalaya i.e. Shillong –Cherrapunjee and the main destinations of Arunachal Pradesh – Tawang and Dirang

  • For those of you who have thought Indian one-horned rhinoceros only existed in Jurassic-era, then a trip to Kaziranga must be in your travel list. Kaziranga National park’s 430 square kilometer area showered with swampy lagoons, elephant-grass meadows, and dense forests are home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned rhinoceros, approximately 2/3rd of their total world population.
  • This park is the breeding ground of elephants, the iconic Greater one-horned rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. Over time, the tiger population has also increased in Kaziranga, and that’s the reason why Kaziranga was declared as Tiger Reserve in 2006.
  • The amazing wildlife conservation activities have made the park successfully manage to grow the population of Greater one-horned rhinoceros, an endangered species.
  • GUWAHATI, known as the largest city of North-East India is quite famous for KAMAKHYA TEMPLE (One of the Shaktipeeth temples) and also popular for the Mighty BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER.
  • Shillong, a very popular tourist destination in the North formerly called Yeddo or Lewduh, city, capital of Meghalaya state in northeastern India is located in the east-central part of the state on the Shillong Plateau, at an elevation of 4,990 feet (1,520 meters).
  • Shillong, derived from the name, Lei Shillong, an idol worshipped at the Shillong Peak is the home to numerous waterfalls.
  • The breathtaking waterfalls being the tallest ones to ever witness is one of the key reasons why people visit Shillong.
  • Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, also known as Sohra which was pronounced “Churra” by the British and it eventually evolved into the current name, Cherrapunji. The name “Cherrapunji” which means ‘land of oranges’ was first used by tourists from other parts of India.
  •  Located around 50 km from Shillong is known for its double-decker living root bridge and is famous for its rich flora and natural attractions.
  • In the whole of Arunachal Pradesh, you will literally be introduced to paradise in this little village Dirang.
  • Dirang is a beautiful hill station comprising Tribal Mahayana Monapas sharing their traditions and heritage which are similar to Western Bhutan.
  • Dirang is located on a picturesque valley in between Bomdilla and Tawang and due to its lower altitude than Bomdila the weather is much milder & comfortable, a constant wind blows along the river valley making it a very pleasant place to stay.
  • Tawang is the largest Buddhist Monastery in India and the second largest in the world making it the most important site of pilgrimage for the Buddhists. This beautiful majestic Monastery truly lives up to its name and is also called the Galden Namgey Lhatse which literally means ‘celestial paradise in a clear sky’.
  • The best time to visit Tawang is between March to August where you can witness a pleasant cool climate. If you wish to enjoy the snowfall, early winter from October to December would be the ideal time for sightseeing and being showered by snowfall.
  • Torgya, also known as Tawang-Torgya, is a monastic festival held every year for three days in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh according to the Buddhist calendar, the dates of this festival are from 28th to 30th in the month of Dawachukchipa, which corresponds to 10 to 12 January of the Gregorian calendar.
  • It is believed that celebrating the colorful 3-day festival chases out the evil spirits that accompany misfortunes and diseases.
