  • GUWAHATI, known as the largest city of North-East India is quite famous for KAMAKHYA TEMPLE (One of the Shaktipeeth temples) and also popular for the Mighty BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER.
  • For those of you who have thought Indian one-horned rhinoceros only existed in Jurassic-era, then a trip to Kaziranga must be in your travel list. Kaziranga National park’s 430 square kilometer area showered with swampy lagoons, elephant-grass meadows, and dense forests are home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned rhinoceros, approximately 2/3rd of their total world population. 
  • One of the major cities in Assam, Jorhat, a doorway to both Assam and Nagaland which was carved out of the Sibsagar District in 1983.
  • Tezpur, a town and urban agglomeration in Sonitpur district is on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, 175 kilometers northeast of Guwahati

Interesting!!! – Cinnamora Tea Estate, which is Assam’s first tea estate, was established in the year 1850. It is situated at a distance of 10 km from Jorhat. The tea festival is held every year in Jorhat which is the hub of tea industries , It is held during the winter season, between the months of November and January. Kamakhya Temple , one of the shaktipeethas is a must visit while staying in Guwahati. It is one of a kind and has been the seat of the powerful tantrik cult in India. A cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra ends the trip with nostalgic memories.

Kaziranga

Kaziranga declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 for its unique natural environment .It is inhabited by the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. Kaziranga is popularly known as the home of the “Big Five” – the elephant, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, tiger and Swamp Deer

Majuli island

JORHAT is also known as the tea capital of India is used as access to visit The river island of MAJULI, which is world’s largest river island which is just 20 km away from this town and it can be accessed by ferries from NimatiGhat

Before You Go

  • To visit Assam no entry permits are required for Indians or foreigners.
  • Do carry comfortable footwear and clothing which will blend with nature. Traveling with toddlers and infants is not recommended as safari should be the least noisy activity for the best experience!
  • Permits for safari: The park safaris should be booked in advance and photo ID proof {passport copy (overseas and Indian Nationals), voters ID, Pan Card, driving license} is required to book the safaris. Different charges apply for Indian national and Foreign nationals.
  • Jorhat has several outlets of traditional Assamese jewelry and craft made from tea bushes and driftwood.
  • Carry adequate cash in Indian currency as ATMs might not be available in remote areas
  • Carry at least one of your identity proofs
