An itinerary which gives you a glimpse of wildlife at Kaziranga, along with the much-visited destinations of Meghalaya i.e. Shillong –Cherrapunjee and the main destinations of Arunachal Pradesh – Tawang and Dirang

  • Torgya, also known as Tawang-Torgya, is a monastic festival held every year for three days in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh according to the Buddhist calendar, the dates of this festival are from 28th to 30th in the month of Dawachukchipa, which corresponds to 10 to 12 January of the Gregorian calendar.
  • It is believed that celebrating the colorful 3-day festival chases out the evil spirits that accompany misfortunes and diseases.
  • This fun festival starts with text recitation and Chham dance wearing a warrior outfit, Arpu by the Lamas who are the Buddhist spiritual leaders. There is a purpose of the festival which ushers in spreading peace and prosperity and also omits the feeling of hatred and malice.

KAZIRANGA

  • Kaziranga was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 because of its remarkable natural environment. It is inhabited by the world’s largest single-corn rhinoceros population, as well as by many mammals including lions, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. Kaziranga is popularly known as the home of the “Big Five”-the elephant, the rhinoceros, the wild buffalo, the tiger, and the Swamp Deer.

SHILLONG

  • The capital of Meghalaya is the home to numerous waterfalls and vast natural beauty.

CHERRAPUNJEE

  • Also known as Sohra is a high-altitude town in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. It’s known for its living root bridges, made from rubber trees.

DIRANG

  • Dirang Valley is an impressively picturesque valley lying between Bomdila and Tawang. Dirang ‘s views are mind-blowing. Dirang is also famous for the hot water springs and apple orchards which enhance the place’s natural beauty. Before heading towards Mandla, bird watchers and trekkers use Dirang as their base camp. Dirang valley is also renowned for the medicinal plants grown in abundance here.

GUWAHATI

  • North-East India’s largest city, also known as the KAMAKHYA TEMPLE (One of the Shaktipeeth Temples) and the Mighty BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER.

JORHAT

  • One of the major cities in Assam, Jorhat, a doorway to both Assam and Nagaland which was carved out of the Sibsagar District in 1983.
  • Assam’s largest towns and its name are derived from two haats or bazaars “Macharhat and Chowkihat” on the banks of River Bhogdoi, a tributary of the Brahmaputra. A renowned city that depicts the historical monuments of Assamese culture. 
  • The powerful water bodies like the Brahmaputra River, which forms the largest riverine island, Majuli, the principal place of pilgrimage of Vaishnavites since the times of the Ahom rulers.
  • This tiny town produces many creative writers, musicians, actors, historians, and journalists, terming Jorhat “The Cultural Capital of Assam ” inspires the people to participate in cultural activities and as a result, impact the cultural diversities which prevails for decades.

Interesting!!! – Cinnamora Tea Estate, which is Assam’s first tea estate, was established in the year 1850. It is situated at a distance of 10 km from Jorhat. The tea festival is held every year in Jorhat which is the hub of tea industries , It is held during the winter season, between the months of November and January.

Tawang

The 400-year-old Tawang monastery is not only one among the oldest but it is named one among the largest Indian monasteries. Torgya, also known as Tawang-Torgya, is an annual festival that is exclusively held in Tawang Monastery

Before You Go

  • Depending on flight connectivity, the arrival and departure points may be changed to Guwahati.
  • To go to ARUNACHAL PRADESH, Inner Line Permits are needed for both Indian and Foreign Nationals
  • To visit BUM-LA(the Indo-China border above 16,500 ft above sea level) and SANGET-SAR LAKE (popularly known as Madhuri Lake ) , a 3 nights stay at Tawang is required as permits to visit both are required.
  • Do carry comfortable footwear and clothing which will blend with nature. Traveling with toddlers and infants is not recommended as safari should be the least noisy activity for the best experience!
  • Permits for safari: The park safaris should be booked in advance and photo ID proof {passport copy (overseas and Indian Nationals), voters ID, Pan Card, driving license} is required to book the safaris. Different charges apply for Indian national and Foreign nationals.
  • Carry adequate cash in Indian currency as ATMs might not be available in remote areas
  • Carry at least one of your identity proofs
