  • One of the major cities in Assam, Jorhat, a doorway to both Assam and Nagaland which was carved out of the Sibsagar District in 1983.
  • For those of you who have thought Indian one-horned rhinoceros only existed in Jurassic-era, then a trip to Kaziranga must be in your travel list. Kaziranga National park’s 430 square kilometer area showered with swampy lagoons, elephant-grass meadows, and dense forests is home to more than 2200 Indian one-horned rhinoceros, approximately 2/3rd of their total world population. 
  • Shillong, a very popular tourist destination in the North formerly called Yeddo or Lewduh, city, capital of Meghalaya state in northeastern India is located in the east-central part of the state on the Shillong Plateau, at an elevation of 4,990 feet (1,520 meters).
  • Shillong, derived from the name, Lei Shillong, an idol worshipped at the Shillong Peak is the home to numerous waterfalls.
  • Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, also known as Sohra which was pronounced “Churra” by the British and it eventually evolved into the current name, Cherrapunji.The name “Cherrapunji” which means ‘land of oranges’ was first used by tourists from other parts of India.
  • Dirang a beautiful hill station comprising Tribal Mahayana Monapas sharing their traditions and heritage which are similar to Western Bhutan. 
  • Tawang is the largest Buddhist Monastery in India and the second largest in the world making it the most important site of pilgrimage for the Buddhists. This beautiful majestic Monastery truly lives up to its name and is also called the Galden Namgey Lhatse which literally means ‘celestial paradise in a clear sky’.
  • Namphake Village or the Tai-Phakial village is the largest in Assam, boasting of 70 odd families, who trace their ancestry to the great Tai race. The village folks follow the traditional customs and dress code of the great Tai race and also speak a dialect similar to the language in Thailand.
  • Kohima is also known for its large cemetery known as the War Cemetery in Kohima for the Allied war dead maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
  • Aizawl is known as the largest city, as well as the capital of the state of Mizoram in India.
  • Aizawl’s attractions include a zoological park, the State Museum on Macdonald’s Hill, and the Mizoram State Museum, a treasure house of historic relics, ancient costumes, and artifacts.
  • Tam Dil is situated near Saitual Village, about 110 km from Aizawl  and this is one of the most frequented lakes in the state
  • Having been developed as an important Pisciculture Centre by the Fisheries Department and a holiday resort by the Tourism Department,
  • Neermahal (নীরমহল) (meaning “Water Palace”) is a former royal palace and is the largest of its kind in India and the only one in Eastern India. 
  • This palace is the establishment of Maharaja’s great taste and his fascinating idea of blending Hindu and Muslim traditions and cultures.

Tezpur is a town and urban agglomeration in district Sonitpur, state of Assam, India.
